Construction and design of the BICON implant

Unlike other types of implants, the BICON system is comprised only of two parts: implant and abutment. It does not contain screws, there are no torsion forces.

It does not have to be screwed on.

The joining of the implant and abutment is based on the articulation of 2 cons with the same inclination (hence the name Bicon).

The joining on the cone (by rubbing) is one of the safest joinings, if the tightening (wedging) force is sufficient and the combination of materials is correctly chosen.

An example of a very well known combination cone on cone is the combination of the abutment with stub on any vehicle.

The people who are passionate about mechanics and have knowledge in this field might remember that in order to pull a pin out of the stub a special press was used and in the absence of such a press, one could use a hammer and was not sure to be able to get the pin out.

Another example of joining on the cone are the wheel studs on vehicles, the propeller of a boat.

 

 

The quality of the material

The quality of the material is the most important factor for the osteointegration of the implant. A very good implant is the one that allows a fast osteointegration and the growth of the bone around the implant. The titanium is the material that allows the best osteointegration.

Currently, most of the implants are manufactured from Titanium but the purity of the titanium differs from one company to another.

Unlike many other systems, the Bicon implant is manufactured from a very pure Titanium alloy whose surface is treated with plasm or hydroxiapatita (especially for bones with low density).

The manufacturing process is computerized and performed by robots without human intervention, from the beginning of the process until the packaging, using cutters from the same alloy as the implant and thus avoiding the contamination of the titanium surface by other materials.

This helps the body to better accept the implant by avoiding the allergic reaction to different metals.

They have a three layer sterile package in order to avoid the contamination before they are placed into the mouth.

 

Design and construction

The design with wings and not a screw helps the osteointegration because it does not cut into the bone. There are no torsion forces at the level of the bone.

The BICON system produced one of the shortest implants ever manufactured only 5mm long.

This is why the Bicon system can be used in many clinical situations without the need of a bone addition, sinus lifting or other additional surgery.
